Manchester United fans claim that academy star Brandon Williams should replace the injured Luke Shaw in the next few games.
Luke Shaw wobbled off in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at the Old Trafford last week.
There was some hope after manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that the left-back might be back in training alongside another injury doubt, Anthony Martial, during the week:
“We’ll have to wait and see,” the manager said. “Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”
However, the unconfirmed reports coming out of the Old Trafford say that the 24-year-old’s injury is more serious than first thought and the fullback could miss a month’s action.
While the reports are still not official, with the international break just around the corner, the gaffer might not want to risk and aggravate Shaw’s injury, given his past injury record.
So, with Luke Shaw potentially missing for Manchester United’s trip to the Saints, a few of the United fans have asked for the inclusion of Brandon Williams.
Brandon Williams is a regular in our U-23 youth team and was also in the squad during Manchester United’s win against PSG last season which shows that the gaffer clearly trusts the young man.
Now, a few of the United fans have taken to Twitter to ask for the inclusion of the 18-year-old on the matchday squad for the Southampton game:
Luke shaw injured🤕 maybe it’s time to give Brandon williams a chance 🤷♂️ looks good for the u23! #mufc

I personally think Ashley Young will play now Shaw is out but seen a few suggesting young Williams is promoted. We are so fortunate with this youth set up we have as there seems to be a replacement for every position all better than what we have. It really is a golden goose

Why doesn’t ole just play Williams as replacement for shaw instead of young ??

With Shaw & Dalot injured I'd love to see Lee O'Connor & Brandon Williams get some experience around the first team in the next few weeks

With Luke Shaw out with injury, we should let Brandon Williams be on the bench for Southampton. Ashley Young starting. If we have the chance, give Williams some playing time from the bench. Then start him the next match.

While Ashley Young would more or less start the game against Southampton in the absence of Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot, who is also nursing an injury, it could be a wise decision to have Williams on the bench.
The 18-year-old is one of our most talented academy players and a future star in the making and having him travel with the senior squad, maybe even experience a few minutes on the pitch could do him a world of good.
