Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has earned a new squad number which could hint at his involvement with the first team next season.
The 17-year-old forward is one of our most talented academy products and his numbers in front of the goal proves that.
The youngster scored a whooping 42 goals and provided an incredible 12 assists in just 49 appearances for the Manchester United youth team last term.
His incredible stats earned him his first start on the final day of the last season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him a rare opportunity and the youngster duly took it, standing out as the best player on the pitch.
While the 17-year-old’s official squad number was 54, last term, the youngster was seen flaunting the no. 26 in the pre-season training pictures. Take at look at his shorts:

We had previously done a report on Angel Gomes who had his squad number updated from 47 to 28 this season and now Mason Greenwood has changed his squad number to a lower one too.
The lower squad number for academy graduate usually means that they are further up in the manger’s plan.
With Manchester United looking to re-build and sign players who have the stomach for a fight and a 100% commitment for the badge, maybe, giving an opportunity to our talented academy players who deserve it, is the best way going forward.
