Manchester United have identified Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba in the summer window, according to the reports.
There have been doubts and questions mark over the availability of the Frenchman after the 26-year-old made his intentions clear about wanting to leave the Old Trafford for ‘new challenges.’
While Ed Woodward still wants to keep the Frenchman at all cost, the gaffer is no more warm to the idea of building a team around the world-cup winner as he only wants to keep players who are 100% committed towards the club.
So, in case Pogba’s adventure at the Old Trafford comes to an end for the second time, who could be an ideal replacement for the Frenchman?
We covered an article before where Christian Eriksen, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans were identified as the probable options to replace the Frenchman.
But as per the latest reports, Ivan Rakitic has joined that list too!
As per the Metro, Manchester United have made an opening offer of €35 million (£30.5m) for the Croatian Midfielder which has subsequently been rejected by the Catalan Club.
Barcelona is said to be holding on to their demand of €50m (£43.6m) for the 31-year-old who has a couple of years left on his current contract at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are looking to offload a few of their players to fund the move for Antoine Griezmann and ‘possibly’ Neymar after already spending a considerable amount on Frenkie de Jong.
While a world-class midfielder, Ivan Rakitic has already touched the age of 31, so the signing of the midfielder would mean that there will be little to no re-sale value, if we decide to offload him in the future.
However, a brilliant player in his own right with years of experience at the highest level, he could be a good stop-gap signing to fill the Pogba sized hole in the midfield.
Still, with us also being linked to Christian Eriksen, the Dane looks like a better deal, all things considered.
What about you? Whom would you prefer?
