Manchester United have identified Ruben Dias as a possible alternative to Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the latest reports.
Ed Woodward and co. have been after the transfer of the Senegalese International since the time immemorial. It’s just one of those things that pops up twice every transfer season only to fade away in the background before it re-surfaces yet again.
Even the Manchester United fans have probably given up on the idea of Koulibaly donning on a Red Shirt and if the latest reports are to believed, United’s scouting staff are following their lead.
It’s no secret that the Red Devils are in a need of a leader at the back who can start alongside Victor Lindelof week in, week out. So, with Koulibaly transfer almost impossible, we’ve moved onto the alternative option, Ruben Dias.
Ruben Dias has had an amazing campaign for Benfica in the Primeira Liga where he made 32 appearances last season.
The 22-year-old Portuguese international was a rock for Benfica at the back, impressing everyone with his brilliant performances every week.
His impressive performances meant that it was almost inevitable that the big clubs would come calling, sooner rather than later.
According to the thepeoplesperson, whereas Koulibaly would’ve costed us around €96m, Ruben Dias will cost us less than €60m in this summer transfer market.
While, €60m is still a big price for someone who hasn’t proved himself at the biggest stage yet, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be paying for the 22-year-old’s potential rather than the current ability.
Also the fact that Ruben is 5 years younger than the Senegalese Star could’ve played a part too!
With Axel Tuanzebe set to return to Manchester United in the summer, do you think we should spend €60m on Ruben Dias?
The last time we raided Benfica for a defender, he turned out to be an alright one, didn’t he?
