Manchester United ‘in pole position’ for January signing – ‘Recent hours’ have seen competitor emerge

Mario Mandzukic to Manchester United is going to be one of the main transfer stories between now and the winter market.

It’s been going on since the end of the summer window, with the reason for a last minute deal failing being different depending on who is believed.

The English media have it that Manchester United weren’t that convinced the striker was the man for them, whereas in Italy it’s been reported Mandzukic thought the approach came too late and would have preferred a little more time to think about it.

Juventus then ostracising him and attempting to send the Croatian to Qatar has given the 33 year old some clarity, and it’s now been reported for several weeks that he’d look positively on a move to Old Trafford.

There’s even been suggestions he could move before the January window opens, enabling him to start training with Manchester United so he’s ready for when the registration period starts.

Similar claims are being repeated constantly, and at the weekend TMW reported the Red Devils are ‘in pole position’ for the striker, but Juventus want €12m for their player.

That seems a little high, especially given the striker’s situation in Turin right now.

According to the weekend claims, Borussia Dortmund have, ‘in recent hours’ come into the picture. This could be a tactic to pressure the English club into offering what Juve would believe is a reasonable fee, and there’s no great hype about Dortmund interest in the German media.
