Manchester United are closing on their second January transfer target in the form of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare after securing the services of Bruno Fernandes, according to the Express.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder is said to be the main transfer target, however, Lille ace Boubakary Soumare is reportedly next in the line for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Manchester United are looking to reinforce their squad as they try to regain their spot in Champions League next season and thus are desperate for new signings this January.

United had a horrible start to the season, however, after few decent performances against top teams like Tottenham and Manchester City, they are now only five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. But it is believed that signing Fernandes will give the squad a huge boost.

The Sporting midfielder is reportedly close to agreeing to a move to Old Trafford. And it could not be more timely with the likes of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba ruled out through injury.

But the Red Devils are not slowing up and are already eyeing their next target for after Fernandes is signed. According to the Express, Lille midfielder, Boubakary Soumare is already being lined up for a move to United.

The 20-year-old has caught the attention of several elite clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal . The youngster has been compared to Pogba in the past and is seen as a box-to-box midfielder.

Soumare has made 17 appearances for Lille this season and appeared in all six games in the Champions League.
