Manchester United have reached a breakthrough in contract talks with midfielder Juan Mata, according to the reports published in the football365.
The Spaniards contract at Manchester United ends in a couple of weeks as the 31-year-old will become a free agent with Newcastle United and Brighton interested in his services.
In April 2019, Juan Mata’s father had admitted that the Red Devils have offered a new contract to his son, but his future was far from resolved:
“Manchester [United] have offered to renew [Juan’s contract].
“We are very happy, but there are proposals from Champions League clubs, maybe from Spain.
“But today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.”
There have been lots of rumours and speculations regarding the future of Mata in the last few weeks, however, it has been reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to keep the Spaniard at the Old Trafford for at least another season.
The two parties have reportedly been in disagreement over Juan’s £140,000-a-week wage.
The issue reported is that the player wants a significant hike on his current salary while the United board would only offer him a new contract at the same wages.
The negotiations are still going on but United have reportedly reached a breakthrough and it’s ’90 per cent certain’, that the Spaniard will sign an extension and stay at the Old Trafford for at least another season.
