David Neres was one of the star performers for the Dutch side who took Europe by storm by reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.
The 22-year-old Brazilian star scored 12 goals in all competitions, including the all-important strikes against Juventus and Real Madrid in the Champions League, add to that the 15 assists he provided to his team-mates, and you’ve got yourself a complete Striker!
Ajax have already seen their golden team being dismantled after the recent transfer of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong to Juventus and Barcelona respectively.
It’s being reported that the Dutch club are doing everything in their power to keep hold off their star players and had even offered Neres a new contract which would make him the highest earner in the club.
However, Manchester United’s recent bid of £46m has changed the narrative, as the heads have turned in Neres’ entourage.
Ajax are said to be demanding £65m for the services of the 2019 Copa America winner as Neres’ former club Sao Paulo have a sell-on clause worth 23 percent, which means, any fee United pays for the Striker, a 23% of that cut will go to Sao Paulo.
As per the reports, Manchester United and Ed Woodward are unwilling to pay that kind of money for the services of the 22-year-old and will only go forward with the transfer, if Ajax lowers their valuation.
However, there is always room for negotiations, especially, if the player shows an interest in completing the transfer.
With only 4 days left for the Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, any transfer dealings will have to be done and wrapped up quickly.
What do you think of this news? Will David Neres be a good choice for Manchester United as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku?
