The attacking midfielder is widely considered among the Red Devils fans as one of the brightest talents to come through the academy in the recent years.
Still only 18, Gomes made his first team debut for Manchester United a couple of seasons ago in the 4-0 FA Cup victory against Yeovil Town.
While, he only came for 2 minutes during that game, it was clear that the youngster was supremely talented and skillful for his age with a brilliant future full of opportunities ahead of him.
2 seasons later and Angel Gomes hasn’t quite lived up to his earlier reputation yet. But hey, the kid is still only 18 years old, right?
The Englishman did manage to make 3 appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season where he accumulated 27 minutes on the pitch. Not much, but it was a start…
While Gomes used the squad number of 47 during the previous season, the good news is that his kit number has ‘reportedly’ been updated to 28 for this season.
While the new squad numbers of the player is not yet confirmed, the likes of Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong, Dylan Levitt, Ethan Hamilton were seen on the training pitch yesterday as Manchester United begin their pre-season training.
It must be noted that every player on the training pitch was using his official squad number, which means, Angel Gomes could be using the number 28 for the next season.
While a change in the shirt number of a first team star doesn’t mean much, a much lower shirt number of a academy kid hints at more first opportunities.
Hopefully, that would be the case for Angel Gomes as the Manchester United fans would love to see him in action at the Old Trafford!
