What have we learned in the past few weeks?
We have learned that Scott McTominay and Fred are the real deal. We have learned that Ashley Young is past his best and Smalling and Jones are only good enough to be squad players. We have learned that we need a new, world-class, CenterBack good enough to start alongside Victor Lindelof.
Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Koulibaly and Varane for a long, long time. And it’s still completely possible that we end up signing none of those 2, thanks to their massive release clauses.
However, one player who does have a cheap release clause worth just €36m is Roma’s Center Back Kostas Manolas.
Manolas has established himself as one of the best CenterBacks in Serie A in the past few seasons. At 27-year of age, Manolas is at the peak of his game and looking for one last big contract with a top club.
Now, according to Leggo’s Rome edition, Manchester United and Juventus are both interested and ready to pay the meagre release clause of the Greek international and Roma is scared that they won’t be able to do anything to stop clubs from snatching away their prized asset.
Yes, he may not be Varane or Koulibaly, but we doubt many United fans would be against the idea of Manolas starting alongside Lindelof ahead of Jones, Rojo or Smalling.
What do you think of this transfer? Should we go for him at that kind of money?
