Manchester United are set to offload Matteo Darmian after a host of Italian Clubs have shown interest in the services of the Right Back.
The 29-year-old has struggled for regular playing time at the Old Trafford since the departure of Louis van Gaal, the man who brought him to England.
Following his move from Torino in 2015/16, the Italian fullback made 39 appearances for the Red Devils and looked set to become a dependable cog in the van Gaal wheel.
Fast forward to this day and Darmian has made just 53 appearances in the last three seasons combined.
The Italian fullback has made just 6 Premier League appearances in the last season and it’s clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t want him anywhere near the squad.
According to the reports, Darmian wants to get back into the Roberto Mancini’s Italian national side and a move away from Old Trafford, to a club where he can afford regular playing time, will be a good start for the Italian.
As per the claims made by Calciomercato, Inter Milan and Roma have shown their interest in taking Darmian off of Manchester United hands and now, Lazio have also joined the race for the 29-year-old who, apparently, still has a lot of admirers in Italy.
As for Darmian, a move away from the Old Trafford surely makes sense for him, especially, given the fact that Manchester United are in a hunt for a fullback with Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Thomas Meunier probably set to join us in the summer.
The 29-year-old has had an unfortunate last couple of years in Manchester, but he never once moaned or caused any kind of tantrums over playing time.
Definitely not one of the better signings United made in the past few years, but Darmian always has been a gentleman, if nothing else. Good luck Matteo. Hope you have a better time Italy!
