Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack on underperforming forward, Alexis Sanchez, and has “no idea” as to why the former Arsenal and Barcelona left-winger is struggling at United.
The Chilean was signed from Arsenal in January 2018 in a swap deal that involved Armenian midfielder, Henrik Mhkitaryan, going in the opposite direction.
His reputation as an excellent inside forward, his hefty £500,000-a-week wage, and the fact that he took up the legendary no.7 jersey, previously donned by Old Trafford icons like George Best, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham made him the player every United supporters looked up to lead the club back to glory.
The Copa America winner has however failed to live up to expectations, and after one-and-a-half year, he may be on his way out of the Old Trafford, with a loan move to the Italian side, Inter Milan, being tutted for the player.
Gary Neville believes the Chile international had his chance at the Theatre of Dreams and that it is high time Manchester United got rid of the 30-year-old.
While speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the former right-back said:
“We talk about Alexis Sanchez going to Italy.”
“I welcomed him coming to the club as he’s a tenacious forward that plays across the line and scores goals.”
“But it’s been a disaster. He has been an absolute disaster. I have no idea what’s happened. There must be two of him. The one that played for Arsenal and Barcelona and then the one that’s turned up in Manchester.”
“They need to get him out of the club.”
Alexis Sanchez has managed just 4 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils since he joined, with injuries and inconsistency hampering his stint at the club.
While Ole Gunnar Solksjær has overseen the departure of Belgian forward, Romelu Lukaku, on transfer deadline day and has replaced the former Everton man with 17-year-old academy graduate, Mason Greenwood, Manchester United’s inability to replace Sanchez might make them reconsider sending the star on loan.
