Manchester United to pay Marcos Rojo to leave the Old Trafford

Marcos Rojo might be on his way out of Manchester United, with fresh reports claiming that the Old Trafford outfit are ready to pay up the remainder of his contract and allow him to leave.

The 29-year-old was signed from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2014, after helping Argentina to second-place in the World Cup, and became an instant starter under Dutch boss, Louis van Gaal.

However, injuries and inconsistency hampered his career in England, and he became more of a back-up player towards the end of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager’s stint at Man United.

He, however, managed to gain Jose Felix Mourinho’s trust in the Portuguese tactician’s first season at the Old Trafford and was a regular in the Red Devils’ XI before another injury in the mid-season disrupted his run and pushed him out of favor at United.

The South American star has found game time hard to come by ever since and the £85million acquisition of Harry Maguire coupled with the return of loanee, Axel Tuanzebe, has further put question marks on his importance in Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s plans.

The English giants tried to sell him to Everton on British transfer window deadline day, but the move fell through somehow, much to the anger of the Argentine, with reports claiming that the Merseyside’s club were unwilling to match United’s £25m demand.

Marcos Rojo’s earns £130,000-a-week at the Theatre of Dreams and still has 2 years left on his current contract.

While there are still loan interests in the defender from clubs in Spain and Italy, it is understood that United prefers to get rid of him on a permanent basis and are unwilling to sanction a loan move.

However, Mirror reports claim that if Manchester United fail to find a buyer for the player by the end of the European transfer window, which closes on September 2, they might be forced to terminate his contract and pay a large portion of the £13.5million the defender is meant to receive throughout the 2 years left on his contract.

United are looking to get rid of another defender with Chris Smalling rumored to be another major unwanted figure at center-back at Old Trafford.
