Antonio Valencia’s time at Manchester United is coming to an end and so is his calamitous reign as the Captain of the Red Devils.
The Ecuadorian has been a loyal servant to the Club for a long time, but with his contract expiring this summer, OGS has the job to find a new permanent Captain. Not that he’s spoiled for choice in that respect.
Ander Herrera is all set to join PSG in the summer, Paul Pogba, while talented, doesn’t really suit the roles and responsibilities of a Captain while fans don’t really envisage Ashley Young as a regular starter next season. David De Gea could be a sentimental choice, but there’s doubt on his future too.
There are sections of fans who would like to see someone like Jesse Lingard or Marcus Rashford to take over the reign, given they have been with us all their life, but would that be a good choice?
There’s also an option of Victor Lindelof who has risen to new heights under OGS. Given their Scandinavian connection, Lindelof could be an interesting choice with the added advantage to communicate with his manager in English, Norwegian and Swedish.
“I speak to him in Swedish and he speaks in Norwegian back to me,” Solskjaer told the club website earlier in the year.
“It’s nice to speak a bit of Swedish. They’re quite similar. It’s just how you pronounce words. Some words are different, but it’s not a problem. I understand everything he says. The same’s with him.”
Victor had a very difficult start to his life at the Old Trafford, but the Swede has been brilliant as of late and one of the first names on the team sheets. Do you think he’s the best option to lead us next season and beyond?
