Marco Silva: “This is what I want at Everton”

4 cleans sheets in the last 5 games, 2 wins in the last 2 games and looking impressive in the park, seems like Silva and Everton have turned a corner at the business end of the Premier League.

Marco Silva has had a tough start to his life at Goodison Park. The Toffees have struggled defensively, leaking in goals, mostly from set pieces, a loss to Millwall being the lowest point of the season, but finally, Silva has some breathing space with performances coming in consistently with defensive organisation and structure.

During an interview with Everton FC, he explained the idea of his Football:

“The idea and model we are building is to play offensive football,” he explained. “But no-one can play well, and play offensive football, if you are not a solid team, because you cannot attack in the right way if you do not have the right balance.

“We have got four clean sheets in our past five matches and we are happy with that.

“But it is up to us to work more and more and to achieve more good results. We will aim to be consistent, solid and try to get another clean sheet.

“It is our aim to maintain our standards because we have that quality. We have to keep that focus, desire and put that on the pitch consistently. We have to demand that from ourselves

“And after, if we have a good day, we can win against every team in the Premier League.”

“We want to show the ambition we showed in the last few games, respecting the other teams but believing in ourselves.

“It has to be our challenge and goal to the end of the season. If we do this, for sure our results will be strong, and we will finish the season in a good position.”

It was never going to be easy for Silva. Inheriting a team that was ageing and had spent the last few months under Big Sam, Silva needed some time to push through his ideas and it seems like sticking with him in turbulent times in the mid-season was a wise decision after all.

Now, if we can only end this season on a high…
