‘Mason Greenwood could start against Chelsea’: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Mason Greenwood could start for us in our first Premier League game against Chelsea at the Old Trafford.

The 17-year-old started and scored his first goal for the Red Devils in the 4-0 pre-season win against Leeds United at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.

Possibly our most talented academy star in the current scenario, the versatile forward made his Premier League debut in the loss against Cardiff in the last game of the previous campaign.

However, that loss did no harm to Mason’s reputation as the teenager was still our best player in that game by a wide margin.

With his squad number already updated from 54 to 26, the Englishman is set to earn more opportunities in the upcoming season, and with doubts surrounding the future of Romelu Lukaku, maybe Mason might even earn a start against Chelsea during our first match of the campaign, as per Ole:

“Mason has a chance to start against Chelsea [on Sunday, 11 August], definitely. He is more than capable,” said Solskjaer.

“It is a good possibility if he keeps going as he does. It is difficult to keep players out who perform well.

“[I was] delighted with the goal he scored. That first goal is a weight off his shoulders.

“With his movement, cleverness, he’s going to be a very good player. He’s a natural footballer who can play anywhere along the front line.”

It’s frightening to think that Mason is still only 17 and he already has the talent and skills to become one of the breakthrough stars of the Premier League this season.

Greenwood’s performance in the pre-season so far has proven the fact that the hype surrounding the 17-year-old is quite real and Marcus Rashford has decided to jump on the train too:

“He is quite laid-back,” said Rashford.

“I think it’s no good putting things in his head repeatedly.

“He’s a clever kid so he’ll learn it as he goes. His natural abilities are frightening.”

If Mason Greenwood can continue his rich vein of form in the upcoming pre-season games, there’s no reason why he can’t start in our first Premier League game at the Old Trafford against Chelsea!
