Barcelona have already sealed a £75 million move for Frenkie De Jong and it looked likely that the Dutchman will be joined by compatriot Matthijs De Ligt. It appears that Barcelona don’t actually have an agreement over his transfer from Ajax.
19 year old De Ligt has been taking Europe by storm with Ajax and it looked very likely that he will move to Barcelona in the summer. Reports said that the center back was hard at work to secure a move to the Catalans.
Various rumours in the last few hours have put cold water on the alleged transfer. One from Spain’s Marca said that Mino Riola is holding up the transfer on account of his agent fee demands.
Marca’s report cites the ban handed to Riola as well as the extension of the same by FIFA. However, legal experts in Italy claim that there will be no effect on Riola’s transfer business. All of these storms have conjured a situation that could help Liverpool sign the defender.
De Ligt has already ended his season with Ajax on a high, doing a domestic double while also reaching the Champions League semi-final. As Ajax celebrated another Dutch title on Wednesday, De Ligt was asked about his future, specifically if he has his future set with Barcelona.
“Has it been my last game for the club? I do not know yet,”
“With who? The newspapers write, so choose one yourself.”

We will know soon enough. In the meantime, Liverpool are well stacked in the defence with Van-Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
