Ajax Captain Matthijs De Ligt has dropped a major Man United hint on Instagram sending a lot of Mancunian hearts racing.
The young centre half is expected to leave Ajax in the summer after the club’s CEO Edwin Van Der Sar confirmed that De Ligt had played his last game for the club and would move to ‘England or Spain’.
Barcelona who snapped up De Ligt’ teammate Frenkie De Jong were considered favourites to land the 19-year-old too but the Reds Devils have reportedly put a better deal on the table.
Whilst the prospect of playing for Barcelona might be extremely tempting, United are ready to prize out the Catalans out of the deal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees De Ligt as the foundation to improve his defence on.
And if we account the Dutchman’s latest social media activity, It wouldn’t be as distant a dream as it was earlier thought.
De Ligt liked Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand’s post celebrating the club’s third UEFA Champions League triumph eleven years ago.
’21st May 2008 Rain in Moscow….what a NIGHT…what a TEAM,’ wrote Ferdinand on his official Instagram handle.
Ferdinand who himself has been linked with a return to the Old Trafford to become the club’s first ever Director of Football is a big fan of De Ligt claiming that the Dutchman is the ‘best young centre-half on the planet.’
"He's the best young centre-half on the planet!"
