Tottenham are looking to sign players for various positions. Chief among them are midfielders and defenders. Youri Tielemans is a central midfielder that Spurs have been pondering about signing, especially after watching him play the Premier League with Leicester City during the last season.
Tottenham almost finished the last season on a high but realized that new signings must be made if the club hopes to keep the upward trajectory of recent seasons under Mauricio Pochehttino. Even so, key players like Christian Eriksen have declared they wish to leave the team, giving Daniel Levy more reason to sign more players.
Youri Tielemans isn’t affordable and Spurs have other options
Could Youri Tielemans be a Spurs signing? He could be, but the Monaco owned player will not fit in Spurs budget. The Belgium international is valued at £40 million by his club and has a contract with Ligue 1 side that runs until 2022. It gives a lot of leverage to Monaco in any negotiations. Add to that the fact that Manchester United may also be interested and the price can only go up from there.
So, Tottenham have decided to focus on other, more affordable options in his position. Arriving at Leicester in the January transfer window, Tielemans started a majority of the teams game in the second half of the season. He had also regularly played for Monaco until they signed Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea, and his future went into the doldrums.
He has evidently done enough to warrant a move to another club and Spurs could suit the Belgian well but Monaco’s price has not allowed Spurs to officially pursue his signature. For the time being, Spurs are focusing their efforts on securing either Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon or Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.
