Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjær has recognised Lyon’s forward, Moussa Dembele, as a replacement for Inter-bound Romelu Lukaku, as per reports.
The Belgian has been a subject of transfer speculations all summer and is understood to want a move on after he was informed that he would play a second-fiddle role at the Old Trafford.
Inter Milan’s new manager, Antonio Conte, is a big admirer of the former Everton star and has tried to sign him during his time at his former club, Chelsea. He is still keen to recruit him to spearhead his attacking line at the San Siro.
Reports in the past weeks suggested that Manchester United have rejected a £54m bid for the big striker as they are looking to recoup the £75m they paid for him in 2017.
Romelu Lukaku is part of the squad for the pre-season tour, but has not featured in any of the Reds matches due to fitness issues.
Inter wants to offload out-of-favor Mauro Icardi as well as Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic, and are believed to be coming back with another bid for Lukaku. Once they do so, there would be a need for Ole’s side to sign a replacement.
Moussa Dembele has been identified as an ideal replacement as he fits in well into Ole’s “young and talented” player requirements, the 23-year-old having just enjoyed a prolific season in Ligue 1 where he bagged 15 goals in 33 appearances.
The former Fulham star was signed from Celtic last summer for £20m and still has four years left on his contract.
The player himself has rebuffed transfer links and is understood to want to stay in Lyon for next season, meaning Manchester United will have hurdles to jump over if they wish to sign him.
United has already completed the signings of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in the ongoing transfer window and Ole Gunnar Solksjær has confirmed their interest to sign more players.
