Nemanja Matic issues warning ahead of new season

Manchester United Star Nemanja Matic has sent a warning to his team-mates about the start of the next Premier League campaign.

The last Premier League season saw the Red Devils make their worst start to a campaign in 28 years which eventually resulted in the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Although, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in and steadied the ship (wheel?), the damage was already done as we spectacularly lost our way in the final few weeks.

Nemanja Matic, who had an indifferent last season marred with injuries and bad form, has warned his team-mates that they need to be focused mentally and physically from Day one to avoid the repeat of last season:

“I think we need to be focused from the first day, to prepare physically and to be ready mentally for the season which is in front of us.

“We [must] think positively. We want to win trophies, so I think everyone needs to be ready.”

Talking about the holidays, Matic believes that the absence of international tournaments this summer should only lead to more rest and better mood among the players:

“The mood is always great,” he said.

“But last summer, because we had the World Cup, we had a shorter holiday and didn’t have as much time to rest.”

The Premier League fixture list is out with Man United set to face Chelsea in the first game of the opening week, but the Serbian midfielder doesn’t want to look too far ahead yet:

“I’m getting excited about the new season,” Matic said.

“But I won’t look at the fixtures a lot because you have to look game by game.

“The next game is always the most important, so you are focused on your first game. Then when you’ve finished that you can think about the second one.

“In football it’s not good to think about a game that comes later, so you need to be focused always on the next challenge.”

Hopefully, the 30-year-old gets back to his best form which earned him the tag of one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
