Paul Pogba has been a subject of transfer speculation to Spanish giants, Real Madrid, over the past two months, after the Frenchman told reporters in Tokyo that he might move on to a new challenge.
Pogba said: “After everything that happened this season, with my season being the best season as well, I think for me, it could be a time to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
The utterance caused a huge reaction from the Old Trafford faithful, as they viewed it as a downright disrespect towards the club, and things went even nastier when his agent, Mino Raiola, confirmed the player’s interest to leave the Theatre of Dreams, mentioning that “everyone at the club knows the Pogba’s willingness to move on.”
However, speculation as cooled down somewhat, and the World Cup winner is believed to have changed his mind, with Norwegian manager, Solskjaer, claiming that he is ready to offer Pogba a new challenge at Manchester United.
The midfielder has been involved in United’s pre-season tour until the final match against AC Milan in Cardiff, a match he missed due to reported pain, causing a huge suggestion from various media outlets that he is trying to force a move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, has “no doubt” that the 26-year-old will stay at Man United, assuring fans that Pogba did not make the trip due to his decision not to risk his star player.
“Yeah. No doubts at all,” he told reporters when asked if the midfielder still wanted to stay at Old Trafford.
“I wasn’t expecting him [to travel to Cardiff].”
“I spoke to him after training and he didn’t feel right. It’s not an injury, it’s just some pain. I wasn’t going to risk anything.”
Solskjaer also confirmed the £80m signing of Leicester center-back Harry Maguire is set to be announced: “very soon”.
Manchester United face Chelsea on August 11th in their first competitive match of the season.
