Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “Preseason victories means nothing”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Man United’s preseason victories mean nothing when Chelsea arrives at the Old Trafford on the 11th of August.

The Red Devils have had a brilliant pre-season campaign so far, winning all of their 5 games against Perth Glory, Leeds United, Inter Milan, Tottenham, and Kristiansund.

Ole and the squad are now set to play their final game of the preseason, the Internation Champions Cup fixture against AC Milan on Saturday, and the gaffer claims we still need to improve in the different aspects before taking on Chelsea in the Premier League opener:

“We’ve been very pleased with it. It’s been nice seeing the boys come back to pre-season in good shape.

“But then again, no points have been handed out, and it doesn’t really matter when Chelsea come to Old Trafford on 11th August.”

“We need to improve and we need to be better. The more we improve and the more we get better, the bigger the chance we can challenge for trophies at the end of the season.

“These boys have shown their capabilities. If we just stay level-headed, I can see us improving a lot.

Solskjaer arrived at the United job in the December of last year bringing in the feel-good factor alongside him as the Red Devils managed to win 15 of their first 17 games under his managerial ship.

However, with just 2 wins in the final 9 games, United could only manage the 6th spot in the League which was down to the mental tiredness, as per Ole:

“Football is an emotional game. It’s always difficult when a new manager has to come in and the previous one loses his job, but the players handled it well over the summer and they’ve come back really fit and sharp,” he said.

“I know how fine the margins are in football and how easily things can go from good to bad. It’s a mental game, it’s all in the head.

“We didn’t handle the ups and the downs well enough, we know that. That would be down to mental tiredness because it was a draining season for everyone, but we’ll be better this year.”

Hopefully, this is the start of a new beginning that the United fans have been wishing for.
