Arsenal legend Paul Merson says Phillipe Coutinho and his former-new team-mate Luis Suarez knew what was about to unfold at Anfield that fateful day.
Liverpool were down by three goals against Barcelona after the first leg at Nou Camp. If Barcelona had scored once at Anfield, the away goal would have meant Liverpool needed five goals to overcome the Catalans. The Reds kept a clean sheet instead against the combined might of Messi & Co.
Lionel Messi had inspired Barcelona to the first leg victory and people expected the so called GOAT to keep the ball firmly in Barcelona’s court. However, the Liverpool defense led by Van-Dijk kept the shop shut.
Paul Merson says Suarez and Coutinho had a premonition during the game at Anfield about what could happen afterwards. Origi opened the scoring early on and gave much needed belief to Liverpool, even as Salah and Firmino watched from the sidelines.
Both former Liverpool players were seen wandering the pitch with negative body language after the game. Paul Merson saw it even as early as when the first goal was scored. With three more yet to come. He saw it as the cameras panned and zoomed into the South American’s faces after Origi’s opener.
“As soon as Liverpool got the first goal the cameras were on Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho – and they knew,”
“You could see it in their eyes. They knew they were in trouble.”

Whether they knew it or not, but it felt good to rub it in their faces at Anfield!
