Pochettino saw his team reach the Champions League final in scintillating manner. Then he saw Spurs capitulate in the final to lose against Liverpool. The manager essentially took Tottenham on the cusp of history and then the team just couldn’t make it work.
Call it a lack of resources or sheer luck for Liverpool that Tottenham are the runners-up. Pochettino was asked after the 2-0 defeat about his future. The questions were inevitable regardless of the result but the scoreline would certainly have affected the Argetine’s thought process.
Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi scored two goals between them to sink Tottenham Hotspur’s dreams last night in Madrid. Jurgen Klopp finally won a final at the seventh time of asking. Relatively speaking, Tottenham and Pochettino are novice at this level of the game.
Pochettino wants the club to build on the foundations of this UCL defeat
In statements leading up to the Champions League final, Mauricio Pochettino had repeatedly put his own future at the club in doubt. Over the last season, he has been linked with jobs everywhere from Manchester to Madrid. After the final, Pochettino was asked once more and this is what he said:
“We need to assimilate that defeat. For sure we are going to have time to talk in the future. The future can be tomorrow, after tomorrow.”
“Always after a painful situation like today, it’s about building the success and to build the next period in your life.”

Now, it is up to the club to build upon this amazing run to the Champions League final. Even though Spurs lost it, if Pochettino stays and we make the investments we have held back for some time, we should be challenging regularly for the biggest trophies. One of these days, we will win it: Just Ask Klopp.
