Former English footballer Ray Parlour has lamented at a lack of leadership at Arsenal which resulted in a 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday night as Ozil was made surprise captain.
Ozil has hardly appeared in the away games this season but was handed the armband on the night as Emery’s side was lucky to escape a massive defeat at the Merseyside conceding just one goal.
However, the Gunners with still four from their six fixtures to play are facing a fierce battle to make a top-four finish to claim a spot for champions league next season.
The 46 – year- old former midfielder believes, the way Ozil was substituted in the last 15 minutes shows the team is out of capable players to take the leadership on the field.
“I think football has moved on from my era obviously with the likes of Tony Adams,” the former Gunners midfielder said.
“It was a bit of a surprise Ozil being captain. I’m looking at who else could be captain in this team, and that’s what they’re missing.”
