Timo Werner has always been a man who does things ahead of time. He is the youngest ever player to play for VfB Stuttgart, and the youngest to score for them as well. That was all the way back in 2013.
Now he has bigger things in mind. The now 23 year old striker is done being at a club like RB Leipzig, where you play some good football but end up winning nothing, with Bayern and everything.
Reports in the SportsBild of Germany indicated that the player had an agreement in place with Bayern to join them soon. However, Leipzig are in no mood to go down the Lewandowski lane (as Dortmund did). So, with a contract set to expire in 2020, they want him sold in 2019. Especially now that he doesn’t want to sign a contract extension.
We are known to want to extend the contract. But he has signalled to us that he would rather not extend,” he began.
“We’ll have to see what’s right for us and Timo.”
-RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff
To this end, Liverpool are also involved in this drama. Offering themselves as the patron saint to Leipzig heirarchy. Reds successfully signed Naby Keita from them, and will have enough gravitas in the Leipzig corridors to broker a deal. The question is, whether Werner wants a Bayern where Lewandowski is the lord and saviour. Or he wants to come to Liverpool and stake a claim at greatness.
