Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba and fellow center-back Joachim Andersen are two gunners targets also linked with Tottenham. The reason has always been that Arsenal want to save every buck they can, while we are in the much awaited era of a frivolous spending at Tottenham this summer.
William Saliba is an 18 year old France U-20 international
The Saint-Etienne player is still a boy and will need time to slot into the defence either at Tottenham or Arsenal. He played 16 Ligue 1 games for the club last season. He has also been deployed on right back berth, proving the versatility. At such a young age, Saliba may play in the central defence for Tottenham if and when Toby Alderweireld does depart the club. Also, he could replace Kieran Trippier who is afraid of approaching the age of 30 and has already proven to be a weak link. Either way, he is one for the future.
Joachim Andersen on the other hand is a mature defender (respectively) and is also more expensive.
The Times says he prefers a move to Arsenal
William Saliba must have seen last season’s Champions League final and must have noticed that there were no Arsenal in the competition last season and won’t be in the next one. Still, he somehow wants to play for the Gunners according to The Times.
William Saliba is priced at £22 million making him cheaper than the other option: Andersen will cost no less than £31 million. The ESPN report claims clearly that Arsenal are the club in pole position for the defender and will loan him back to the French side for the next season after buying him.
