Rio Ferdinand suggests Bruno Fernandes to Man Utd deal imminent

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand had every Manchester United fan speculating after he seemed to give a hint on Twitter that his former club were all set to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Playmaker’s agent and officials from Sporting are reportedly to be in the UK today to finalise the terms of the deal with Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed in his press conference today that he and his assistant Mike Phelan were in Portugal on Sunday to personally scout Fernandes during his game against their title rivals Porto.

Manchester United tried to sign Fernandes during the last summer transfer window as well, but United didn’t pursue their interests after Sporting refused to budge from their £70m demand.

But injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have altered Solskjaer’s transfer plans and Ferdinand has done little to play down supporters’ hopes with his activity on Twitter on Friday night.

The former United skipper simply tweeted: ‘Brunoooooooooooo’ as well as the ‘egg timer’ and ‘clock’ emoji, suggesting a deal is imminent.

United have lost the likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in the last 12 months without signing direct replacements for the pair.

It’s left the midfield looking thin, so it’s understandable now that some supporters are losing their composure after Ferdinand’s tweet.

After sending supporters into a frenzy, Ferdinand sought to dampen expectations by saying he was ‘waiting’ like the rest of the fanbase for news and didn’t have any inside information.
