The player being linked with Liverpool in the latest round of transfer rumours is Memphis Depay. Notably, Depay was one of United’s recent number 7s. Since a failed stint in Manchester, he has been resurrecting his career back in France with Lyon.
The 25 year old has 10 goals and 9 assists this season for the Ligue 1 side. Playing as a striker he could be a good fit for Klopp’s football in the same position as Firmino. He can also play as a winger.
The highlight of his career is certainly his stint at United, where he score 2 goals in 33 games over two seasons. He was then shown the door as he failed to live up to the billing. Depay has since worked hard to get back to the big time and is now attracting the attention of Liverpool.
The PSV Eindhoven youth product will add competition in the front three while also bringing good on-the-ball skills.
The report goes on to say that Liverpool are getting ready, should they lose Mane to Real Madrid in the summer. However, take all of this with salt at the moment. Liverpool are bringing in some attacking reinforcements but the reported price of £50 million may be off putting for a Premier League reject.
In addition to Lyon, Memphis Depay has been on target for the national team as well. He took Netherlands to the Nations League finals by scoring 6 goals in his last 8 matches. Are these enough signs of a rejuvenation, or just another flash in the pan of a flashy, young star.
