Football Insider is running away with a story that links Tottenham Hotspur with the signing of Ryan Sessegnon. The report claims that even if the final is only a few days away, Tottenham are hard at work to seal the deal before the big event in Madrid.
Sessegnon turned 19 only 10 days ago and still played a hefty 35 league games for the doomed Fulham side. He also contributed with two goals and six assists.
The report claims that the two London clubs are in constant contact over the deal that is being structured as swiftly as possible. Tottenham want to avoid a logjam for his signature when the summer transfer window finally opens.
The report claims that even though Spurs are hard at work to finalize the details of his transfer before the Champions League final, any announcement will have to wait until the big game is played. Tottenham don’t want to wait because a number of clubs from England, France and Germany are in line for the teenage midfielder.
Fulham still have an year remaining on his current deal with the option to extend it until 2022. So the leverage in this transfer lies firmly in the South Londoners’ favour. Cross town rivals Tottenham will apparently pay £20 million for his signature with the option for add-ons based on appearances and performances.
If this deal does go through, Tottenham will have repeated the pattern of snapping up young, promising, English youth from the lower divisions and turning them into mega-stars at the club. Instead of spending a blockbuster amount, the strategy has worked wonders for Spurs in the form of Dele Alli once already.
