Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel claims that the Red Devils have been waiting for a ‘little bit of luck’ for a long time as the host thumped to a 4-0 victory over Chelsea.
In a much-anticipated encounter, it was the visitors who started the game on a brighter note, hitting the woodwork and causing United problems with their high press.
However, the match still ended in a 4-0 victory for Manchester United, and as per Peter Schmeichel, it was that ‘little bit of luck’ that United and Solskjaer have been craving for since a long time:
“It took a little bit of time for Old Trafford to get going but once the goals went in the atmosphere here was fantastic.
“It’s a bit weird, it wasn’t a 4-0 match, I don’t think United played so much better than Chelsea.
“But people here are very, very happy.
“I think this is something that the club and the team and the fans here have been wanting this to happen for a very, very long time.
“That little bit of luck that gives you one or two goals that are unexpected, and it came today.”
Schmeichel also reserved some praise for Chelsea with the ex-United Goalkeeper claiming that Frank Lampard’s men didn’t deserve that scoreline:
“You think about how many saves that David de Gea had to make in the whole game plus Tammy Abraham hit the post within five minutes, it could have been a completely different game,” Schmeichel added.
“As I said before this was never a 4-0 match, it doesn’t feel like that at all.
“Frank Lampard, his first game as a Premier League manager, it’s a tough one for him to take.
“But I really think at times Chelsea played well, they have some exciting players in there.”
Manchester United will now face Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night, whilst Chelsea gears up for their Super Cup final against Liverpool tomorrow.
