Shaka Hislop: Manchester United need to sign a Goalkeeper

Manchester United need to strengthen the Goalkeeping department if David De Gea decides to leave in the summer, according to Shaka Hislop.

We have already covered several news and articles about David De Gea’s future and whether he would be staying at the Old Trafford next season.

While nothing is clear as of yet, it looks increasingly likely that the Spaniard won’t be extending his current contract with the Red Devils which means we risk losing him on a free next season.

Given the financial implications that may follow if DDG exits on a free, United would like to recoup something out of him by selling him the summer, meaning we would need a replacement for the Spaniard!

The ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop has been discussing Manchester United’s trouble positions and here’s what he thinks:

“With De Gea [potentially leaving], without question [they would need to sign a goalkeeper].

“Romero’s not going to be the goalkeeper that is going to lead them back to challenging in Europe or even the top four.

“In all honesty, Manchester United need to strengthen in every single department,” he continued.

“Just kind of thinking about it loosely, I don’t think there centre-halves are great, I don’t think their wing-backs are great.

“Through midfield the only world class talent that they have is Paul Pogba and I don’t think he’s lived up to his own expectations.

“He’s been good, probably better than most, but I don’t think he’s lived up to expectation. The likes of Ander Herrera are already moved on.

“[Marcus] Rashford started well under [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer but seemed a little bit moody towards the end. [Romelu] Lukaku linked with a move away.”

Like we have already covered before, Manchester United are in a need of some serious summer rebuilding. Cutting off the dead weights is priority No.1 for the Ole’s side.

Talking about Ole, Hislop was inquired about the Norwegian and if he thinks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man to lead United forward?

“No”, he concluded.

So, there it is then! None of the pundits and critics are giving us or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance next season.

Hopefully, the players take this on their ego and get out there next season with the intention to prove the world wrong!

De Gea is the 1 world class player we have. Unless he is determined to leave he should be kept at all cost. There’s already to many ‘experienced’ players have left or will be leaving resulting in most likely a hungrier team but you still need that experience especially at the back. If it wasn’t for de Gea there’s a good chance we could of be caught up in relegation battles over the last few seasons. 500k might be seem alot but if we were buying him in to start a solid spine I don’t think an eyelid would be batted. Especially in what looks like there could be a lot of chances it’s essential as long as he wants to stay everything should be done to keep him. Fair enough Sanchez was on a free but price paid for de Gea he mày as well be. I can understand if he wants a fresh start but if he’s happy to stay then EVERYTHING should be done to repay him for pardon the pun but the amount of times he’s saved our club and helped propell it which he will hopefully continue to do under Ole, Mike, Michael and co and bring this club where it belongs at the top head and shoulders above every other club in the world. Look how long it took us to get a keeper even close to Scheimcal and again Van Der Sar In short keep him or could make what is going to be a difficult time even more difficult. If it’s just the wages simple pay him and anybody else looking them tell them to come back when they are hands down the best player in the world at that position and we’ll talk then
