Sky Sports Journalist Lyall Thomas has been speaking on the ‘Last Word on Spurs‘ podcast and was asked all things Spurs. He spoke about the Spurs’ top target this summer and according to him the player will be for the number 10 position. Thomas says that Spurs may invest even a club record amount to bring him in.
Spurs’ top target will take time to arrive
Lyall Thomas, invited to the podcast spoke extensively about the summer transfer window and the players linked with Spurs. When the discussion reached Giovani Lo Celso, Thomas quickly cleared that reports talking of an official offer are off the mark.
However he does reveal that there was contact between Tottenham and Real Betis about Giovani Lo Celso. The amount circulating is certainly in the ballpark of what Spurs would spend on their main target this summer. Per Lyall Thomas, Betis can play hardball because of Lo Celso’s £88 million release clause. Besides, other English clubs are also interested in the attacking midfielder, making his signature costly.
“There was a reported offer in Spain, but what I was told by a source was that wasn’t necessarily correct, that the offer was a bit more informal.”

This clearly means that Giovani Lo Celso is Spurs’ top target and talks are ongoing behind the scenes. The reported amount of £53 million is certainly tempting for Real Betis but according to the Sky journalist they can be patient because of the protection they have in the form of his release clause. In short, the deal may drag on as the clubs come to an agreement in due time.
While Lo Celso may be a Tottenham transfer target of the highest priority, we know the club has also been looking at other options. No matter who arrives, one thing is for sure- the club are seriously trying to sign an attacking midfielder.
