Sky: Tottenham walk away from negotiations for Bruno Fernandes

The transfer window is in full swing for Spurs fans as a plethora of talent is being linked with the club. At least one of them is nearing completion, with Lyon on the verge of replacing Tanguy Ndombele with a Brazilian. As the real deals begin to materialize, the other players will surely leave Spurs’ transfer hotlist like Bruno Fernandes has.

Bruno Fernandes no longer a Tottenham priority

Spurs were pursuing a number of attacking midfielders to replace Christian Eriksen and to play in the number 10 role. Chief among them so far has been Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso. Another name regularly doing the rounds is Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes has been in the spotlight because in his last season in the Portuguese league, the player has successfully contributed to 50 goals. His 32 goals and 18 assists have turned heads of the biggest European clubs. Which maybe the main reason Daniel Levy has abandoned targeting the Portugal international.

Manchester United are also involved in this merry-go-round as they seek to secure a replacement should Pogba choose to leave.

The price is prohibitive and competition is corrosive

“Sporting value the midfielder at more than £65m and there is interest from other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.”
Sky Sports

Tottenham have always seemed to have kept several options open at the same time to gain some leverage. None of it will be useful to convince Fernandes’ club Sporting to part with him without paying what they want- £65 million.

Daniel Levy obviously balked at the demand but Sporting must have told him that there are clubs willing to pay that much for a phenom who can contribute 50 goals a season. Tottenham believe they can make a better deal for other players in the market, notably, Giovani Lo Celso.

Unless something extra-ordinary happens, Tottenham are very much out of the race to sign Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes.
