Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira as the players who can replace Ander Herrera this season.
Herrera, 29, has now joined PSG on a free transfer, after his contract with Manchester United ran out this summer.
There were talks of him possibly renewing the deal with us after it was revealed that Solskjaer is a big fan of the Spaniard, but that wasn’t to be, as the midfielder opted to sign for PSG instead.
The absence of Herrera means that we were short of a midfielder and needed a new signing to replace him in the middle, but as per Ole, we might already have a replacement for Ander in our own squad:
“Andy (Pereira) I expect a lot more from, Scotty I expect a lot more from. Those two between them had maybe 15, 20 starts last season. You expect them to have at least 20 each this season, maybe even more.
“That’s maybe two players into one that can replace Ander.”
Manchester United will have to make do with the Europa League this season after we failed to qualify for the Champions League, but playing in the Europa could possibly mean more minutes for the young ones:
“Yeah, I think that it’ll be a chance for some of the young ones, definitely,” Solskjaer added. “Then again, it’s a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League for next season.
“Jimmy (James Garner) is young, he’s very young – only 18 – so you can’t expect too much from him,” Solskjaer said. “But you can see he is going to be a top player.
“So I think you’ll see quite a few of the young ‘uns you’ve seen already They are exciting and we need to blood them in the right tournament. And it depends on who you play, it depends on the stage of the tournament, group stages, every weekend is a possibility.
“You can’t plan three months down the line.”

Hopefully, thanks to Solskjaer, they will have plenty of opportunities this time around at United.
