Solskjaer provides injury update vs Inter Milan: Romelu Lukaku out

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the squad fitness and availability ahead of the pre-season game against Inter Milan.

The Red Devils have had a brilliant start to their pre-season after registering victory over Perth Glory and Leeds United in the last week.

However, Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan is set to provide a more difficult competition to Solskjaer’s team.

Talking about Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku will be unavailable for the fixture against the Serie A side. As per Ole:

“He’s (Lukaku) not fit so he won’t be available.”

One wonders if it’s really a fitness problem…

Talking about the fitness and injury issues, David de Gea and Luke Shaw sat out in the last game against Leeds United due to illness and injury concerns respectively.

However, the gaffer admitted that both of them would be available against Inter Milan:

“I think both will be available,” the manager confirmed.

“Luke did a decent training session yesterday before we left [Perth] and David is probably well enough to train today.

“So we’ll try to get 60 minutes or longer out of him.”

Matteo Darmian and Fred also missed our last two pre-season fixtures owing to family reasons, but the duo have joined our squad in Singapore and should be available for tomorrow’s fixture:

“Well, obviously, today, we’re going to have to see where they’re at with them training back home and Fred’s been back over in Brazil and had got married.

“So he’s probably got loads of energy and I’m sure he’s keen to join in.”

While Luke Shaw and Martial have missed a couple of days of training, it’s Romelu Lukaku who has missed most of the sessions, thanks to his injury concerns. With Inter Milan also in town, could we see a deal being struck through with United and Solskjaer?

“Luke has missed a couple of days, Anthony [Martial] one day, but Romelu is the one who has missed the most.

”But it’s been good, very encouraging and we’re working on a few things. I think we’ve started well.“
