Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged Manchester United to complete the signing of Newcastle United Star Sean Longstaff by next week.
Sean Longstaff has been a priority target for Manchester United since Ole sent his scouts to watch the 21-year-old in action on three different occasions last season.
The young midfielder made 9 appearances for the Tyneside club last season where he impressed the manager and fans with his good technique and long range shots.
And thanks to his incredible potential, Ed Woodward is now said to be set to make an opening bid of £15m plus add-ons for the Midfielder who is massively rated at Newcastle.
However, Ole has urged the United board to skip the low-ball formalities and meet Newcastle’s asking price of £20m plus add-ons as he wants the deal done before United’s travel for their pre-season games on July 8.
Sean Longstaff’s signing would fit in perfectly with Manchester United’s new transfer policy of signing young and homegrown British players as the 21-year-old will join Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the dressing room.
With doubts over the future of Paul Pogba and the fact that Matic would be turning 31 in August, not to mention that we are a midfielder short after Herrera’s free transfer and Fred and Andreas Pereira haven’t exactly lit up the league on fire… yeah, you could say, we do need a Midfielder or two, I guess!
However, with just 9 senior appearances to his name, is Sean Longstaff the man to start games for us regularly in the Premier League?
It’s a fact that we are signing him on the basis of his potential instead of what he has done or achieved in career.
However, spending £20m plus add-ons on a completely inexperienced player at this level could well come back to haunt us in the future.
But hey, you can never predict in Football, can you? If the signing proves to be a masterstroke, then all hail Ole! But yeah, I am a bit skeptical about this one…
