It has been no secret that Tottenham’s number one target for the summer transfer window is Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso. Apart from arguably Bruno Fernandes, no player has been more deserving of a transfer link. Right now, the Argentine is with his national team, having accumulated 13 national caps so far.

With 16 goals and 6 assists, Lo Celso has been attracting the attention of clubs like Manchester United. Real Betis have been encouraged by all the attention he is attracting and have asked any suitors to come in with a bid worth at least £70 million.

Giovani Lo Celso will not come cheap for Spurs

Obviously, Daniel Levy has a problem with that fee, especially as Christian Eriksen’s transfer doesn’t seem to be picking any pace. Pochettino is said to be interested in the player and there were earlier reports of a £53 million opening bid from Spurs that was rejected. So we know how much Betis want and what Daniel Levy is willing to pay for the Argentine.

The deal, if it has to happen, will have to be concluded somewhere in between those valuations. As of now, Lo Celso is proudly donning the Argentina kit and posting it on twitter for Spurs fans to lap it up and deplore the midfielder to come to London. That is exactly what Spurs fans have been doing on his recent post.

Perhaps the two clubs will only reach an agreement after the Copa America, where Giovani is busy at the moment. Lo Celso is a Betis player after they bought him from PSG last summer. His contract runs until 2023, giving Betis plenty of negotiation points. Tottenham may also be waiting on Christian Eriksen’s transfer before tying up any deal for a player in his position.
