Pundit Steve Nicol has praised Manchester United’s decision to extend Marcus Rashford’s contract after the forward signed a new deal yesterday.
Manchester United are in a summer of re-building as the Red Devils look to secure important signings while getting off the dead-weights in the next few weeks.
The signing of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka exudes the new-found intentions and the latest transfer policy being implemented at the Old Trafford.
And now, the latest Marcus Rashford update that United have extended the contract of the forward until 2023 with an option to further it by another year has been met positively by the fans and the pundits.
As per Steve Nicol, we’ve finally done something right:
“No [it’s not a surprise] and they’ve done something right,” Nicol said.
“It’s a long time since we’ve sat here and praised what’s gone on behind the scenes at Manchester United.
“This kid no question if he was available for transfer, there is not a team in the world who wouldn’t want to sign him.
“So yes, Manchester United are looking after their future and the future certainly is Marcus Rashford.
While Nicol admits that offering £200,000-a-week of money to a 21-year-old is a lot of money, the pundit also acknowledges the fact that Rashford is one of the brightest young talents in world football and would be wanted by every team on the planet, if he was on the market:
“Yes it’s a lot of money but the guy’s worth it.
“One hundred per cent [Rashford will be United’s main striker], no question.
“£200,000-a-week tells you what they think of him at Manchester United and I agree with them.
“The only problem they have right now is how do they get him the ball, how do they get him the service.
“If they can do that, if they can sign some players who are capable, then Rashford and Manchester United will benefit.
“He’s the start of the puzzle for Manchester United and it’s a great start.”
A brilliant week for Manchester United that involved Wan-Bissaka deal and Marcus Rashford update.
Hopefully, we can sign a couple of midfielders and a center-back before the end of the transfer window and we should be set for the next season!
