Manchester United have accepted a £70m bid for Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, but manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, seeks a replacement today.
The 25-year-old Belgian striker has been a long term target for Inter Milan but with the Serie A club failing to meet the financial demands of the Red Devils, the transfer had to be dragged on to the deadline day of the Premier League summer window.
Romelu Lukaku failed to feature in any of the preseason games for Manchester United with the gaffer blaming an unknown injury, the reason for his absence for the entirety of the preseason.
But, with the deal finally on the verge of happening, Manchester United are now short of a Striker in the squad.
Currently, Marcus Rashford is our primary No. 9 with a 17-year-old Mason Greenwood, and possibly, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez, as the other options who can fill up that role.
However, the Red Devils desperately lack someone who can play with his back in front of the goal, hold the ball well and bring the wide attackers into play with his linkup play.
The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Alexis Sanchez, while talented and skilful, are in a somewhat similar mould and none of them can do the job of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic or, to a limited extent, what Romelu Lukaku could do with his unique characteristics in front of the goal.
Many of the Manchester United fans believe that we are pretty set with our plan A, but the clubs still needs a plan B to unlock the stubborn defences.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly made it clear to Ed Woodward that he would like a replacement for Lukaku today with the likes of Juventus Striker Mario Mandzukic, and free agent Fernando Llorente, still a possibility.
Would you like us to sign someone like a Mandzukic or Llorente with whom we can have a Plan B, or would you rather go in with the current squad and have someone like Mason Greenwood fill up that role?
