Daniel Sturridge has been at Liverpool since 2013 and has been central to the team for a couple of seasons. However, the arrival of Salah and Firmino along with Mane has effectively ended Sturridge’s time in the first team.
However, another former Chelsea player (Daniel found his way to Liverpool via Manchester and London) Rhian Brewster is set to grab the spot so far occupied by the England striker.
It is not that Sturridge has been completely overlooked by Klopp. He has made some important contributions when called upon, such as the wonderful goal in the match against Chelsea, effectively winning us a point and keeping us in the hunt for the title. It is just that the chances don’t come as often as Daniel would like in the twilight years of his career.
Last season, Sturridge was loaned out to West Brom but their demotion from the Premier League meant the move wouldn’t turn into a permanent one. Now his contract is set to expire and there is every chance that we are seeing the last of Daniel Sturridge in Liverpool colours.
It is likely that when he leaves, Liverpool will look within for a replacement. Dominic Solanke didn’t make it but maybe Rhian Brewster still can.
Born April 1, 2000 Brewster is still young and learning but his exploits at the U-17 world cup, where he won the golden boot will give Klopp the confidence to make him Firmino’s understudy.
