Tottenham begin their summer amidst a lot of noise about player arrivals and departures. One player closely monitored by Spurs’ transfer brokers is Tanguy Ndombele. Sky Sports have now come out and said that Ndombele to Spurs could become a reality after both clubs opened talks on a record transfer deal.
Who is Tanguy Ndombele (Olympic Lyon/France)
Ndombele is the latest starlet out of the prodigious French conveyor belt of talents. The World Champions boast some of the best midfielders around and Ndombele is cut from the same cloth, making him a coveted commodity in the transfer market.
Spurs have been looking at him since sending Mousa Dembele on his merry way to China. However, this summer transfer window seems like the one when things get moving. Ndombele will cost Spurs £71 million, but Levy is ready to spend on the French central midfielder.
The 5’11” midfielder can play both as a creative midfield force as well as a defensive midfielder, making him all the more useful for Pochettino. The manager will be glad to have options better than Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama in the midfield. Besides, Ndombele has the age to mature and improve while the likes of Dier can’t get any better.
In short, a young midfielder with the potential to become one of the best in the world, Ndombele is everything Mauricio Pochettino would like to have after being starved of new talent for the last 18 months. One of his core assets is his ability to dribble out of tight midfield spaces.
Ndombele to Spurs: What’s the hold up
We are not talking about Ndombele’s hold up play. Being a creative midfielder, he doesn’t need much of it anyway. His through balls and key passes are all the more useful to Spurs in midfield. All of these qualities make the midfielder popular among the biggest European clubs and powerhouses like Real Madrid and Manchester City.
As such, the player is considering all his options before making a decision. It takes time, and Spurs have to wait. Manchester United will also come into play somehow, due to their desire to add another midfielder. Given the competition, Spurs will need to bid in the higher valuation levels if they hope to beat the likes of United and Madrid.
A lot of things could stall the Ndombele to Spurs transfer and the London club need to be swift and effective in their negotiating tactics with Lyon.
Lyon’s president Jean Michel Aulas doesn’t make things any easier for the London club. He is said to be holding out for £71 million- his valuation of the French international. However, rest assured that Levy will be more than a match for him and will bring the price down to digestable levels. It will still be Spurs record transfer signing. As will be the signing of Giovani Lo Celso, should it happen. So Spurs have every chance of breaking their transfer record this summer, one way or the other.
How’s the transfer negotiation proceeding for Tanguy Ndombele’s transfer
Sky have revealed that Spurs have just opened the talks with Olympic Lyon. Meaning the two clubs are at early stages of negotiations and nothing is set in stone yet. Also, Manchester United still loom over the whole saga, so Spurs have extra motivation to proceed fast with the deal if they don’t want to be hindered by their domestic rivals. The availability of Champions League football will certainly impress Ndombele as he impressed with Lyon against Manchester City and Barcelona.
