Liverpool are playing Newcastle United at Saint James’ Park in a few hours. Before that, tabloids are running away with a story about a leaked version of today’s Liverpool line-up.
Liverpool are involved in a high stakes battle with Manchester City for the Premier League title and City still have two days to play. As things stand, Liverpool have no option but to win against their old manager Rafael Benitez.
The Benitez years are revered by most Liverpool fans (he has his detractors too) but the Spaniard is mostly respected. As such he would be involved in determining the fate of his former team. If he stops Liverpool he will be stopping us win a trophy that he came so close to in 2008-09.
Today’s team sheet will be important given the fact that we play three days later against Barcelona. Liverpool are likely to start a full strength squad against Newcastle despite the Barca match. However, injuries may play spoilsport for Klopp.
According to the leaked reports, the team will be missing Roberto Firmino, who Klopp said would start if fit. So apparently, Firmino is out for the game against Newcastle United. Another obvious injury absence is Naby Keita who is now out for the season with an abductor injury.
The Leaked line-up above is from The Express
If this leak is indeed true, we will see Divock Origi start instead of Firmino (or Sturridge). The Belgian has been deputizing for the number 9.
