Manchester United succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Barcelona in the Champions League last night.

While giving an away goal to the Spanish Champions doesn’t seem like a great night, we still have everything to play for at the Nou Camp. The likes of Matic and Herrera should be fit for the return fixture and if we can control the game defensively, we might still have a chance.

Talking about the absence of Herrera and Matic, it meant that Scott McTominay had the opportunity to make his mark and boy did he do that:

“Yes, really impressed with him tonight.

“I think every young – I say young, he’s 22 – but every player breaking through into a team has sort of defining moments whether they can go on and do it.

“I think he might look back in his career and think this was one of them.

“When you’re playing against Barcelona, you can’t get any bigger.

“I thought he was the stand-out man for Man United, played particularly well, looked calm on the ball.

“I love his presence, the size of him in that midfield as well.

“I think he’ll look back in the future and think that was one that really gave him a lot of confidence to be a proper Manchester United player.”

Ole Gunnar was also visibly happy when talking about the performance of the the Scot:

“A fantastic game for Scott,” the Norwegian enthused .“Every time he plays for us, he is improving, today on the ball as well.”

“He’s a great athlete, he can run all day long. He wins challenges, he’s quick on his feet. He was composed and brought the ball down a few times.

“He started settling us, to be fair.”
