Arsenal making a top-four finish would be a master class, given the transfer policy of the club which has been very poor in so many years.
That’s the opinion of the ESPN pundit Craig Burley.
Burley believes that Emery’s promise to confirm a Champions League spot next season has been made more difficult with the clubs transfer policy.
However, the former Chelsea midfielder explained on ESPN FC that the club still needs to do more off the pitch before Arsenal can truly compete again.
“Unai Emery is a good manager,” he said. “How good? It remains to be seen.
“He’s obviously had success in Spain and in France, although with PSG that’s sort of a given.
“But the transfer policy, Stan Kroenke, Ivan Gazidis – who is no longer at the club – spouted three or four years ago that Arsenal will be competing with the top teams in Europe over the next few years.
“That period of ‘in three years’ has come and gone.
“If you look at the players they’ve brought in over the summer, it’s hardly inspiring.
“That’s why I’ve always said that if Unai Emery gets this team into the top four, it’ll be a masterclass this season.”
