Tottenham may be in with a shout to sign Sampdoria’s Danish defender Joachim Andersen after Arsenal failed to meet the demands of the Italian club. The 23 year old is yet to be capped by his country but is in demand after his impressive performances over two seasons in the Serie A.
Arsenal may have blown their chance to sign Andersen
Andersen made his name in the Eredevisie playing for FC Twente as a young star. He moved in 2017 to Italy’s Sampdoria where he has impressed continously over the past two seasons as the central defender of choice. His performances attracted interest from London’s so-called pre-eminent club: Arsenal.
Arsenal fans were left licking their lips when it appeared the club may not be able to meet Sampdoria’s demand for £31 million. However, to firm up Arsenal’s interest and to squeeze the most value out of the young defender, Sampdoria have now offered the young Dane to Arsenal’s cross-town rivals Tottenham.
Spurs maybe able to afford Joachim Andersen as Tottenham have a transfer kitty for the summer worth over £100 million. If the North Londoners do take the plunge, this move may turn out to be a genius one in replacing Toby Alderweireld should he leave.
Tottenham may lose Alderweireld on the cheap this summer
Spurs gave Alderweireld a contract extension last season that added a £25 million release clause. If triggered, Tottenham will be short on bodies and may find use for Andersen in the starting XI. Even if Alderweireld sees out his contract with Spurs, it won’t hurt to have and blood a ready replacement for the 30 year old.
