Tottenham join United in chase for Norwich City star Ben Godfrey

Ben Godfrey is a 21 year old centre-back born in York. The England U20 player has played 31 Championship games this season and has been one of the most consistent players for Canaries as they won the Championship. Ideally, a 21 year old will stay in the team that got promotion to the Premier League but the giants are always waiting for the next big thing out of Championship teams.

Apparently, Spurs had sent scouts to the Canaries’ games this season and when they returned from watching him, he was all they could talk about. In tempered terms, he impressed Tottenham scouts very well.

The scouts are so impressed with Ben Godfrey that they think he will fit right in the midfield. Though no story tells us exactly who he will be replacing. Reports state that scouts want him to play in the midfield while for Norwich he was mostly deployed as a centre-half.

Rio Ferdinand has been personally monitoring Godfrey for Manchester United and will probably end up signing him for an exorbitant sum. If not, Spurs would do well by signing a versatile defender. Though there are some doubts about his ability but at 21 years of age there’s great potential for training and improvement.

Sadly, all of this is just a rumour. Manchester United are anyway better placed for his signature then Spurs. However, the team needs improvement in all the positions and starting at the back isn’t a bad idea. Especially since at 21, Ben Godfrey can be useful for the next decade or so.
