Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the golden chance to sign one of the best strikers of the ball in Europe- Edin Dzeko. The 33 year old is currently docked at Roma after spending four seasons at Manchester City, where he also won the Premier League twice.
Dzeko has been in good form for the Rome outfit and even attracted Antonio Conte’s attention while the Italian was at Chelsea. Now, Conte is managing Inter Milan and has once again been linked with a move for the Bosnian striker. However, as generous as they are, Roma have offered Spurs the chance to sign the player as he approaches the twilight years of his career.
Roma looking to cash out on Edin Dzeko with only one year remaining on his contract
Plundering 87 goals in almost 200 games for Roma, Dzeko is no flop. There’s only a year remaining on his contract with Roma and perhaps the capital club of Italy wants to make some money off the capital club of England by selling them a striker who will be free to get next summer. Smart move.
Only Tottenham didn’t bite. Spurs have rejected the chance to sign Dzeko who has been capped 102 times by his country and boasts of experience across Bundesliga, England and Italy among others. He would actually be a good replacement for Fernando Llorente but Spurs could still keep the Spaniard.
Daniel Levy has a lot of work on his hands this summer and he doesn’t seem to be in the mood to waste time on ageing/out of contract player. A transfer for Roma’s Dzeko would set Spurs back by £10 million. However, the club is of the mindset that it is better to replace departing players with younger ones who can make the position theirs for years to come.
