The team will play Liverpool in a few hours in Madrid. Pochettino is hoping to start Harry Kane for the first time since his injury in the quarter-final first leg. Tottenham’s team news for the final is getting clearer by the minute.
Still as the manager, he has several important decisions to make. Difficult decisions like who will start the match and who will sit on the bench for Spurs. The starting XI will be boosted by the four players who have recently returned to fitness following prolonged injury absences.
The last match was on the Premier League’s last matchday against Everton and since then most injured players have had the time to achieve the best condition physically.
Kane and Winks return in latest Spurs team news
In recent interview, Harry Kane appeared to confirm his availability for the final against Liverpool. It is upto Pochettino now to asses how well suited is Kane’s body to start in Madrid. Another Harry returning to full fitness after an identical injury absence is Harry Winks.
The 23 year old central midfielder has recovered from a Groin injury and is fit again. However, if he is to start, Pochettino will have to drop one of the midfielders he played against Ajax and doing that in a final is a bet you don’t know the odds about.
Inevitably, Mauricio Pochettino was asked about possible team selection before the big match and he sort of gave a standard response:
“It’s normal you are asking me, it’s difficult for you to be in my place or different coaches, it’s normal, it’s not easy.”
